No Bathroom Breaks for Street Cart Vendors

New, 6 comments

The latest in ludicrous DOH policies now being enforced on street vendors: no bathroom breaks. A new policy, passed January 1 prevents street cart vendors from even briefly leaving their carts, for threat of the cart being seized by the DOH. "Mohammed Shirajul Islam, a roasted peanut vendor near City Hall for the last ten years, had his permit confiscated last week when he left his cart to use the bathroom. His peanut business allows him to provide for his wife and four children. The vendor members and representatives from the Street Vendor Project will call for the DOH to repeal the policy or amend it to allow vendors a reasonable amount of time to attend to emergencies. " Outrageous. Seems like yet another attempt to milk fines out of innocent, hard-working street vendys. The DOH has definitely gone too far this time. [Eater Inbox]
