Beauty & Essex, the LES' new Club/Restaurant/Pawn Shop

Beauty & Essex, the ginormous club and lounge and restaurant of sorts from the folks that brought you The Stanton Social and Lavo, approaches its debut this Saturday. As laid out previously, this is a restaurant with multiple dining rooms on multiple floors, all serving the same expansive Chris Santos menu of small plates and bar food, a couple of bars, plenty of lounging areas, a functioning pawn shop in the front, and a bartender in the ladies room. As a well lubricated preview party revealed last night, the place can handle quite the crowd. Which is good news, because once the LES hordes and the MePa weekenders catch wind of this place, they will be coming in droves.

Other details: there is a giant chandelier made all of pearls (see above). Some walls are covered in white horsehair, others, in hand-carved wooden panels. The bartenders in the bathroom serve rose. We forgot to look for the undulating skylight last night, but according to press materials there is one. Also, open boxes full of antique-looking necklaces line the upstairs dining room, which will probably be stolen. But perhaps we're underestimating the crowd. The pawn shop is very well stocked with Chris Santos' guitars.
