Community Board 3 isn't the only one to already pass judgment this month. A tipster went to Community Board 5's meeting last week and has the following to report: there is still no word of the restaurant opening in the Lunetta space, though it's been under construction for quite awhile. The board approved Al Mayass, the New York branch of an Armenian restaurant in Beirut, going in at 24 East 21st St. The space has been empty for eight years.
La Mar Cebicheria walked away from a lease at 32 East 21st St., and thus withdrew their application. Gravy, an upscale southern restaurant will take its place.
And here's the most curious one. Per the tipster, "Some crazy WAY high-end French fusion Japanese place on 16 West 22nd. The new concept will be called 21 Grams. Outrageous menu prices." 21 Grams? Think it's in reference to the Sean Penn movie or the portion sizes?
