Cabrito to Close on December 31, Reopen as New Concept

New, 9 comments

Early this morning a tipster revealed that Cabrito, the two year-old Mexican restaurant from Zak Pelaccio and chef David Schuttenberg is closing and reopening as a new concept. And this afternoon Sam Sifton confirms. The restaurant will close on December 31 and it will reopen as a new but as yet unnamed concept by spring at the latest.

Pelaccio tells Sifty of the new space, "It’ll be a place where the plates are a little more studied and the food is not so deliberately leaning toward the Southeast Asian end of the spectrum...It won’t be precious. It’s a way for me to enjoy cooking a little more." It's also going to be more "grown up," more "mature" and a "slightly more serious" Fatty restaurant. Get the message? Schuttenberg has been moved to the Upper West Side branch of Fatty Crab and a new executive chef will be named in the future.
