Yesterday, David Santos, the chef at Hotel Griffou emailed in to say he'll be serving a Christmas Even menu inspired by the seasonal classic A Christmas Story. There will be a bacon 'n' eggs amuse ("an all American starter"), foie gras stuffed quail (referencing "You'll shoot your eye out"), Vahlrona fudge with a lavender cream, and more. It's unusual, yes, but not as unusual as what Vinegar Hill House is doing for New Year's Eve.
There the menu will be inspired by, hoh boy, American Psycho. Their website explains, "So get your axes, your plastic rain slickers, and your bone white business cards and come join us for an 80's themed menu and midnight champagne toast in the theme of Bret Easton Ellis's 1991 psychological thriller." They'll be taking reservations and walkins before 9 PM for their a la carte and $55 prix fixe. After 9:30, it's $80 for the special prix fixe, champagne toast, and 80's jams. Also, everyone is murdered at midnight. See the full menu on the website.
