Sam 'So Brooklyn' Sifton awards one star to hole in the wall Greenpoint restaurant Anella. We have fond feelings for Anella, because its onetime chef won a Meatball Madness competition we put on last fall. And they grow their own veggies and are kind of adorable, if sometimes inconsistent and pricey for the area. That said, the review will, no doubt, merit some head scratches and a "WTF" comment from some.
Still Sifton finds it romantic, an uncovered gem. According to the review you may need your "adventures boots" to get there but "the food is a wonder: a tight and focused menu of simple, seasonally appropriate food from Joseph Ogrodnek, a talented chef who has been in the kitchen for almost a year." The bread "tastes of care and eccentricity combined" while the veggies are "dirt wizard food of high caliber."
