Per the above signage taped to the door at West Village seafood spot Choptank, the restaurant will be closed for the foreseeable future due to extensive water damage. Owner Bobby Werhane tells Eater that a massive leak from above the restaurant caused damage to the main dining room but not to the bar and garden area. The full restaurant won't be up an running for at least a week and at the most a month, sad news given this is the restaurant's busiest time of the year. He's hoping he'll at least be able to reopen the bar area soon.
Regardless, please make alternative oyster consumption plans for the holidays.
