After originally being denied by a CB 2 sub-committee, the Abe and Arthur's team miraculously was approved by the full board last night for a full liquor license at their new, multi-level seafood restaurant in the heart of the Meatpacking District. A tipster reports that the restaurant's owners came armed with a group of supporters and the signatures of hundreds of supporters and somehow managed to convince the board that its own committee was wrong for turning them down. The vote was still close, 20-18, but that's all it takes to get approved. The restaurant will be on the 2nd and 3rd floors above a Sephora with a lounge on the 4th floor, and will serve dinner until 2 AM and drinks until 4 AM. They did not get approval to use the 4th floor's outdoor space. Euegne Remm tells Eater, "we are pleased with the community boards decision and excited about the opportunity to bring another exciting restaurant to the neighborhood that we love and live in." The restaurant opens next September, just in time for Fashion Week.
