A Bourbon At...The Mermaid Inn

Oozing New England charm, The Mermaid Inn offers a respite on Second Avenue in the East Village from all the NYU bars and interchangeable Italian restaurants. It’s now one of three locations of the successful and grown-up seafood shack, with additional outposts in Greenwich Village and the Upper West Side.

A Bourbon At?is sponsored by our friends at Basil Hayden’s Bourbon. Basil Hayden’s is handcrafted, light-bodied and aged longer with twice as much rye to produce an incredibly approachable, sophisticated and luxurious bourbon. It’s spicy. Unexpected. And full of potential. Just like your plans tonight.

The best place to post up for a drink at the Mermaid Inn is at the bar for “Happy Hour and a Half.” Every day, from 5:30-7pm, they offer drinks specials and expertly shucked $1 oysters. Bourbon stands up surprisingly well to these delicious and slimy mollusks. As with the oysters, The Mermaid has a nice selection of bourbons that emphasizes quality over quantity.

In the summertime, the restaurant spills out onto the street and is the closest you are going to come in the East Village to being on the beach. In the wintertime, it’s a cozy restaurant that evokes warmer months and simpler times. Whatever season, it’s a great place to drink bourbon.
