Back when Drew Nieporent chastised fellow restaurateur Michael White for poaching some of the stars of restaurants around town, we thought he was just reacting to the loss of his pastry star Robert Truitt to new Midtown restaurant Ai Fiori. But according to two different sources this month, various other staffers have already followed Truitt to Midtown. Most recently, Susan Lee, Corton's restaurant director, gave her notice last month, and her last day will be Saturday, December 18. The following is unconfirmed, and Drew Nieporent says it's not the case, but we've heard the restaurant's reservationist and two of Corton's three captains are giving notice soon.
One tipster tells Eater that chef Paul Liebrandt has been seen out with investors discussing what may be a new venture, while another—a Corton fan and regular—sadly says he doesn't expect the place to last. For the record, Nieporent says all's well on the good ship Corton. And are happy to hear it, as the restaurant has received pretty much nothing but praise from the professional eaters.
