45 East 22nd St., Flatiron
Status: Certified Opening tonight
Tonight, chef Shea Gallante opens his new, rustic Italian restaurant in the old Beppe space on 22nd Street, Ciano. Grounded by a giant, roaring fireplace in the back of the dining room—you will smell like a bonfire when you leave—Ciano is elegant but still cozy and a serious contender to the growing Italian genre in New York. On the menu—which has yet to be finalized with prices—Gallante serves up simple salads, starters like warm calamari salad, marinated sea bream with blood orange, and veal meatballs, a small selection of hearty pastas (pappardelle with duck bolognese, cavatelli with baby octopus), and mains like roast chicken (a stand out during a preview tasting), lobster pot, steak for two, and pork shoulder. Send all early reviews this way.
