Halloween is over, Thanksgiving is a mere three weeks away, and the holiday shopping season quickly approaches. Which means those signature candy striped booths will soon arise from the cold cement of Union Square Park and Columbus Circle. The pop-up holiday markets are often a wash for shopping—the good finds are often drowned out by overpriced and tacky artisan crafts. But! At least this year there will be some good food.
When the Union Square market opens on November 19, it will offer booths from Momofuku Milk Bar, Wafels & Dinges, Stuffed Artisan Cannolis, Sigmund Pretzel Shop, and others, while Columbus Circle will have Pies 'n' Thighs, Crif Dogs, and the folks from Fatty Crab/'Cue. Following in the footsteps of the Brooklyn Flea and the Hester Street Fair, organizers realized people are sometimes just more into eating than shopping.
