Former Buddha Bar Maven Denied For Duvet Space

Some news from the Community Board 5's own Kangaroo Court, where a former Buddha Bar partner appeared before CB 5's SLA Licensing committee regarding the old Duvet space. After Duvet was shut down for being a crime scene, it seemed that the best bet for the space was to find an owner who already had a positive working relationship with the local community. According to a tipster at the meeting, David Kay didn't meet those criteria, reporting that he was completely unprepared with his proposal for a project called Revolvaire and was unable to respond to community members who don't think the neighborhood can support another 1200 person nightclub. Our tipster reports that Kay "was given every opportunity to placate the community and bungled this chance", and the committee declined his application. If you recall, Kay and his partners had tried to outmaneuver Buddha Bar International owner Jean-Yves Haouzi for control of the Meatpacking District flop, but Haouzi ultimately prevailed in court. It looks like Kay's next venture isn't off to a great start.
