Asian Pub Will Close to Make Way for Bowery 2.0

It's unclear at this point what the next shiny, pricey, upmarket addition to the Bowery 2.0 will be. But we know what it will replace. Last week, news broke that the 35 - 39 lot of Cooper Square had sold for $8.9 million in an all cash deal. The lot, located right next to the Cooper Square Hotel, is a squat building home to NYU watering hole and divey al fresco bar Asian Pub.

So no one in the area will be shocked to hear, per Bowery Boogie today, that employees say a closing is imminent. The bar and an alliance of neighbors, who claim the site was "the first of four houses built by Nicholas William Stuyvesant in the 1800s," are fighting the move with petitions.
