Baorrito, Michael Bao Huynh's redo of the original Baoguette location on Third Avenue, is now open to the public. Instead of banh mi sandwiches, here he serves burritos made with Asian ingredients. Each comes with saffron jasmine rice and lard on pinto beans are are filled with items like spicy lemongrass ground beef, pulled pork with sweet corn and Baobq sauce, or spicy braised short ribs with napa cabbage slaw. Also on the menu: baorrito bowls, crispy tacos, soft tacos, nachos, and quesadillas.
Huynh explains his inspiration to NYU Local: "I did this for my Mexican cooks. I have about 30 or 35 on my staff. After the kitchen’s closed, they made me this stuff with all of the Asian leftovers and it was too good not to sell."
