Osteria Morini, Michael White's long awaited return to downtown Manhattan makes its debut to the public tonight after an extended weekend of friends and family meals (breakfast and lunch will come later). The look here in the 100 seat space is rustic, and so is the food, which evokes the style of the Emilia-Romagna region with its nurturing and comforting roster pastas, stews, grilled meats, and spreads. (White picked a good day, weather-wise, to open.) Those who have had a taste are already filing on its greatness, while one Eater tipster tells us the food is "very Convivio but cheaper and just delicious," and another says its trying too hard to fit into the downtown scene. Now we're anxious to hear what the public and the critics have their say once the proper visits have been made. As always, send early reports here.
