Kurt Guttenbrunner, the chef behind respected New York restaurants Wallse, Cafe Sabarsky, and Blaue Gans, wine bar the Upholstery Store, and less popular Beer Garden at the Standard has a new project. And it's weird!
Per a press release, we learn that the Austrian chef is opening a cafe inside the Swarovski Crystallized Boutique in Soho. It will be called Café Kristall! The restaurant will serve breakfast, lunch, and "light fare" along with a string of desserts. The cuisine, like at Guttenbrunner's other restaurants, will be Central European.
He says of the project, "I admire what Swarovski inspires. The creativity that comes through their crystals is incorporated into so many genres from the fashion industry, to interior design, even the art world. I find it an exciting opportunity to compliment this creativity with a superior hospitality and culinary experience." Huh. For the record, his people tell Eater that Guttenbrunner owns the restaurant, that he is not just a hired consultant. It soft opens on November 5, officially on November 15.
