MIDTOWN— It's a showdown at the Champagne brunch corral between the Plaza and Lavo. Backstory: The Koch brothers recently launched their Day and Night brunches at the Oak Room, further destroying a New York institution. Two weeks later, the recently opened Lavo launched its own Champagne brunch down the street, causing a minor Twitter war between the promoters. The early advantage goes to the established Day and Night brand, where someone apparently spent $75,000 on Champagne, apparently "just to shake up and spray the crowd with". CHELSEA— The Kardashian sisters recently arrived in New York and spent a night at Juliet to unwind from the daily grind of filming another season of their ground breaking TV show. MIDTOWN— After a disastrous opening last spring, the Opium Group's Covet has relaunched for fall and according to the press release, promises "to stake its claim on the midtown nightlife scene." Covet will feature DJs like Samantha Ronson, Jus Ske, and Sky Nellor and "become a destination for those looking to re-capture the elegance and excitement of New York City".
