Tonight, Harold Dieterle and partner Alicia Nosenzo open the Thai-focused Kin Shop, their follow up to West Village neighborhood joint Perilla. The 45 seat space once held the short-lived Phillipe Chow Express and occupies a not so pretty but heavily trafficked block of 6th Avenue, just a few minutes away from its sister restaurant. Dieterle explains the menu in press materials thusly, "My goal with this menu was to put my own spin on the classic staples of Thai cuisine that I love, and also offer some original dishes, too, inspired by Thai flavors. In both cases, I’m incorporating local and seasonal ingredients, and using Western cooking techniques.” The menu is fairly short and sweet with a selection of salads and soups, noodles and curries, and rice dishes, all for under $25. See the full selection here. Much of the wine collection is kept at under $50 a bottle. Check back tomorrow for full pictures of the finished space.
