Neighbors Will Approve McNally if he Opens a Balthazar Cafe

New, 30 comments

As expected, last week the full Community Board 2 followed the recommendation of the SLA Committee and denied Keith McNally's application for a Pulino's Cafe at the corner of Greenwich Ave. and West 10th St. But he may still win out in the end. The neighbors told the restaurateur they would be more amenable to a different concept in the space, something that's not a boisterous pizzeria but rather a spinoff of one of his quieter properties. The new concept, like the original one, will be the name of one of his established restaurants with the word "Cafe" tacked on the end, but it's unclear which restaurant he'll choose to spin off (or if he's even decided himself).

He goes before the SLA Committee again on October 13. So readers, place your bets. Should he build a Balthazar Cafe (Eater's bet)? Morandi Cafe? Minetta Tavern...Cafe? If Pravda is getting renamed (unthinkable), perhaps that the concept to go with.
