New Trend Alerts: Beverage Carts and Piano Bars

Some new trends to keep your eyes out for over the next few months. When Eben Freeman left Tailor last fall, he announced a collaboration with the AvroKo team on a "bar line". According to Fork In The Road, the bar line is actually a line of bar carts that will sell for $3,000 to $5,000 and will come stocked with all of the tools needed for tableside cocktail service at restaurants. Why would anyone want this? Well, according to Freeman, "the future is tableside." If you say so. Meanwhile, the crazy kids at the Manhattan Inn in Greenpoint are being celebrated for throwing a piano in their clubby back room instead of a DJ booth or iPod mix, a trend that Ken Friedman plans to emulate at his new Ace Hotel speakeasy. Just know that requests for Billy Joel will probably be ignored.
