Historic Village Gay Bar Julius Shuttered by the Dept. of Health

New, 14 comments

The oldest continuously run gay bar in New York, Julius, has been shuttered by the Dept. of Health. For those unfamiliar with the dive, it is said to have opened in 1867 and eventually became a gay hub in the 1960's after it played an integral part in the establishment of gay rights (read more here). According to the signage above, management at Julius plans on having the place up and running soon.
