New, 7 comments

Welcome back to the Friday Shutter. Know of any other restaurant that has met its demise? Let us know.

2010_01_babybuddha.jpg1) West Village: Per a tipster: "Baby Buddha in the West Village is closing on January 31, 2010. When will the bloodshed end? I hate this recession." Another reader reports that there will be a rally to save the Chinese restaurant, loved by locals on Sunday. Leaflets have been left at businesses in the neighborhood. [ShutterWire]

2) Greenpoint: Greenpointers brings the sad news that Socrates a Manhattan Avenue old timer, has closed: "Socrates might have been too good of a secret. You would've never known passing by that behind its unassuming dining room was the most amazing deck looking out over the garden's of Greenpoint. On warm weekend mornings, I would laugh at brunch lines and head straight to Socrates for an ice coffee, a breakfast sandwich and peacefully enjoy the views of the Brooklyn backyard." [Greenpointers]

3) Greenwich Village Bowery Boogie brings word that Esperanto Cafe, the small Euro 24 hour cafe beloved by NYU students, has closed: " Cafe Reggio and newcomer Third Rail Coffee both seem poised to absorb some of that business." [BB]
