Earlier this month, the city tried to keep some big ticket items at Tavern on the Green—wood paneling, murals and ceiling fixtures, etc.—out of the public auction by claiming ownership. A judge ruled against the city, so they straight up bought the items in a secret side deal with the auction house: "'Everyone was a winner in this deal,' said the auctioneer."
