Batali, Bastianich Owe $75K in Back Rent for the Dory

New, 3 comments

A restaurant's problems never really end with its shutter. While purveyors lined up to sue Cafe des Artistes for non-payment after its sad shutter last week, it's back rent that's haunting Ken Friedman's shuttered Chelsea spot The John Dory. The landlord is demanding that Mario Batali and Joe Bastianich—the restaurant's backers—pay $75,000 in rent and other expenses, covering the remainder of their year lease commitment. And once again, the litigious landlord is bringing the duo to court to make sure he gets his due.
