Last night, restaurateur Joe Bastianich and emerging foodie internet maverick (aka the Always Hungry guy) Jeff Zalaznick, launched Dine Private, their new attempt to help out the industry while making some cash on the side. Basically it's an Open Table for private dining rooms with a prettier interface and better pictures. Instead of booking single reservations for a night out, here event planners can scroll through a whole roster of the city's private dining rooms (which, of course, aren't doing so hot right now) to find the one with the right availability, price range, and size. For anyone who's called around to dozens of restaurants to book the company holiday party, the advantages here are obvious. As for the restaurants—there are 15 already on the roster—the cost is a sign up fee, a not insignificant $500, as well as 5% of every event booked.
