Bagatelle Team to Turn Merkato 55 into "Italian Brasserie"

New, 1 comment

Finally, some closure to the long, sad saga of Merkato 55. The bankrupt, ambiguously shuttered, doomed from the start, one time Marcus Samuelsson African fusion restaurant will be reborn Italian. Guest of a Guest confirms rumors from last week that the owners of fellow MePa scenester brunch spot Bagatelle are taking over the gargantuan space: "Apparently Remi and Aymeric are planning to turn the Merkato 55 space into an Italian Brasserie and are teaming up with a certain St. Bart’s restaurateur that goes by 'Pascal.'" Given the people behind Bagatelle are already running Gansevoort 69 just down the street, they've got quite a mini MePa empire in the works.
