Late last night, reps for Top Chef alum Leah Cohen wrote in to inform Eater that the Anne Burrell successor had given notice at West Village restaurant Centro Vinoteca. The official line: "Leah's leaving to continue her culinary education by studying and traveling in South East Asia and Spain." Cohen has been the exec chef ever since Burrell left to be famous on the Food Network one year ago.
A chef leaving a restaurant with no gig lined up is always a curious thing, but according to PXThis (whose founder is romantically linked to Centro owner Sasha Muniak), everything appears to be copacetic on the surface. Says Muniak: "We are very proud of Leah and what she has accomplished for both herself and the restaurant." Current sous chef Richard Furey will take over Cohen's role when she leaves at the end of the week.
