The Plywood Report: Fonda, Chickadee Chick and More

New, 2 comments

1) Park Slope: From the tipline: "Don't know any details, but Little d on 7th in park slope has closed after first a 'vacation' and then 'renovations'. Reopening as Fonda sometime soon according to signage in the window." [PLYWOOD]

2) Meatpacking District: DBTH notices some temporary signage has gone up at the Gansevoort St. Cafe, the new restaurant going into the old Florent space. [PLYWOOD]

3) South Slope: Brooklyn Based has an update on the Black Horse Pub, coming to 568 5th Avenue. When open, the British pub from Brian McNally (not that Brian) and partner Ian Lake will offer Sunday roasts in winter and full English breakfasts during football matches. [PLYWOOD]

4) West Village: A restaurant rep confirms earlier reports that a second outpost of Cafe Gitane, the ever-busy European cafe in Nolita, will be opening in The Jane Hotel in mid-September. [PLYWOOD]

5) Park Slope: Fork in the Road reports that Chickadee Chick, a frozen custard and grilled chicken joint, will be coming to 7th Avenue at Garfield Place. The still papered windows indicate the opening is likely at least a few weeks away. [PLYWOOD]

6) Greenwich Village: According to Metromix, Julian Medina (of Yerba Buena and Toloache) plans to expand next month, opening a second location of the pan-Latin Yerba Buena in the former Matador location on Perry Street. According to Metromix, "The project marks the chef's first partnership with his friend Chris Gilman of The Palm so it's a safe bet that the focus here will be steak, assisted by Gilman's 25 years in the beef biz." [PLYWOOD]

7) East Village: An Eater operative notices that Ishikura, previously thought to have been shuttered, is actually just renovating their kitchen. According to a worker on the scene, they will be reopening under the same name and same owners "soon". [PLYWOOD]

8) Windsor Terrace: Also according to Brooklyn Based, a new bar from Greg Hurley (owner of the LES's hipster haven Cake Shop) called Double Windsor will be coming to 210 Prospect Park West. The menu will focus on American-style bar food and craft beers. Writes Brooklyn Based: "Until now, the only bar in this area east of 7th Avenue has been Farrell's Bar & Grill, a neighborhood institution that's been open since 1933 and that, despite its name, does not actually serve food. With 14 taps, as well as a kitchen in the back, the Double Windsor should be a draw for the neighborhood's newer, younger residents who like a wider selection in drink options than the lone beer, Budweiser, that Farrell's still offers in 32-ounce Styrofoam cups." [PLYWOOD]

9) FiDi: Always Hungry has a picture of the signage at the latest outpost of The Capital Grille steakhouse opening at 120 Broadway (at Pine Street). [PLYWOOD]
