Once Again New York Tackles Cheap Eats, Pizza

New York drops its annual Cheap Eats guide today, listing off the 22 easy on the wallet restaurants that have opened since their last guide. As usual the selections span from actually cheap Tasty Hand-Pulled Noodles, to simply not exorbitant (Txikito), but themes must be stretched when the writers are confined to highlighting only the new.

And because New Yorkers haven't heard enough about pizza lately, the majority of the issue is focused on that ever so exciting and infinitely mineable topic of the "new" New York Pie. The Robs name the top 20 pizzas in New York, which includes some good ones and some definite clunkers, run a guide to New York's bigtime pizzaiolos including a separate ode to Una Pizza's Anthony Mangieri, have a slideshow and a timeline of how pizza has evolved in the last 100 years, and once again declare this the new age of pizza, or more precisely the "Neoclassical Neapolitan Pizza Revolution." Is it overkill? Without a doubt, but the thing's a breeze to read.
