Financial District: Conceived pre-recession and delayed for six months, the behemoth SHO Shaun Hergatt opens in FiDi's Setai building on Monday for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The 12,500 sq. ft space features a bar, a pdr, an open kitchen, multiple rooms for dining, and the oh so '08 feature, a wall of wine. It will serve a three course pre-fixe for $69. Since the Cuozz already pointed out the obvious vis-a-vis the economy, the state of the Financial District, and the sheer price and size of this restaurant last summer, we won't go there. No need.
Luckily, there are one or two things the restaurant has going for it: some thought was put into the design, Australian chef Shaun Hergatt (Atelier, the Setai in SoBe) is a big name in certain circles, and his brand of modern French with bold Asian flavors is something that doesn't yet exist in FiDi. If we've learned anything from Corton, it's that people have no problem spending money on excellent food right now. It just better be excellent. See their dinner menu here.
