Red Hook Rising: Fort Defiance Set to Open Saturday

Red Hook: A quick update to yesterday's opening report item on Fort Defiance, the coffee shop/cocktail bar/restaurant opening soon by Pegu club alum and Brooklyn writer St. John Frizell. According to an email sent out to friends and family, they open this weekend with a menu of sandwiches, salads, pastries from Colson Patisserie, Counter Culture Coffee, and homemade sodas. And get this: the sandwich menu includes Italian tuna, turkey, muffuletta with custom baked bread, and what else, banh mi. They'll be open mornings and afternoons until their liquor license comes through late July. Status: Opening this weekend; 365 Van Brunt, 718-522-7996, web.
