1) Tribeca: The Robs report that Carmellini and co. have started breakfast service at Locanda Verde and have opened a marble counter to showcase the work of pastry chef Karen Demasco (ex-Craft). A trip to Greenwich St. confirms that, in addition to the baked goods counter, it's a pretty lovely day to sit in their sidewalk café. 2) Red Hook: The Feed reports that Fort Defiance, the bar and restaurant from food writer and ex-Pegu bartender John Frizell, will be opening on Van Brunt. In the mornings, they'll be offering "Colson Patisserie's baked goods and Counter Culture coffee." For dinner, former Good Fork chef Sam Fiorino will cook up small plates and sandwiches, as well as a nightly entrée. Once they get their liquor license, Frizell hopes to beef up the booze factor with 1940s-inspired mixed drinks. 3) Williamsburg: @pjoesephcaine sends word that new izakaya Sui Ren on Metropolitan near Roebling is now soft open. Status: Certified soft open; 302 Metropolitan; no known number.
4) SoHo: The Feed has some info on the opening of Piccola Cucina, the contemporary Italian restaurant from chef Philip Guardione (Four Seasons Milan). Guardione will be doing "modern twists on classics," such as an asparagus and marjoram lasagna. Status: Wednesday, if all goes as planned. 184 Prince St. (212) 625-3200.
5) LES: In case you're getting tired of Pommes Frites' offerings, you can now head down to Tpoutine on Ludlow to satisfy your French-Canadian fry craving. Signature poutines will include "the 'New York Burger,' with ground beef, onions and mushrooms," as well as a breakfast poutine with scrambled eggs and bacon. Status: Unknown, no answer to calls. 168 Ludlow St, (646) 833-7444.
