Given his restaurants mostly lie beneath the park, we found it slightly curious that Danny Meyer's Union Square Hospitality Group is hosting a VIP Cafe at an upcoming Central Park tasting event, scheduled for next week. But now that we see this Craigslist posting, it all makes a little more sense. Meyer is planning on opening a summertime concession stand in the Delacorte Theater, home of "Shakespeare in the Park," to be named The Bard. And if you "smile easily" and "possess a winning attitude," you could interview to work there today!
In other Meyer news, WSJ has a great Q&A with the man about the trajectory of the restaurant industry in New York. On why he's still in fine dining when the moolah is in fast/casual:
"It makes me wonder what I’ve been doing with the past 24 years of my life. I will not be excited about opening a new fine-dining restaurant every year. On the other hand, we have a big backlog of talent in the company. I don’t want to lose them to somebody else..."Hence...the Bard? Meanwhile, Metromix spreads new rumors of a Brooklyn Shake Shack.
