Chronicles of El Chod Runner: Basque Food on 6th & 30th

New, 4 comments

Jeffrey Chodorow's Blade Runner-inspired new restaurant and "food parc" planned for 20,000 sq. ft. of the Kimpton Hotel won't open on 6th Avenue and 30th (dining hot spot!) until 2010, but Gael Greene has some new details on the theme. It's going to be Basque!

"'We’ll have a visiting chef’s program and a big whiskey collection.' He talks about importing Spanish products for more classic, straight forward dishes. leaving most of the avant garde cooking to the visiting chefs. Given [Chod publicist] Zarikian’s contacts, that could mean even the Great God Ferran Adria....Chodorow expects support from the government will help him keep the menu 'less expensive.'"
Meanwhile the ground level food court will house "a collection of mini restaurants, counters, stalls and kiosks spilling over into food carts outside." All this and a futuristic design? Guaranteed success.
