Eater Inside: Brooklyn Bowl

The team over at Brooklyn Bowl, the new bowling alley/venue/restaurant/bar/megaspace opening blocks away from Williamsburg's Gutter and adjacent to the Brooklyn Brewery, sent over a few pics of the space as it nears completion. Conceived pre-recession and originally scheduled to open in November, the whole shebang should make its final debut at some point next month, once the restaurant and bar area are completed and the liquor license is in hand. Quite the change from when we first checked in last August.

From those of you just joining this journey, Brooklyn Bowl is a 20,000 sq. ft. behemoth owned by Peter Shapiro of the defunct music venue Wetlands and partner and Charley Ryan. In addition to 16 lanes of "high tech" bowling (projectors show the speed of each roll), the space has an ample stage (with a second floor green room, complete with shower), a Blue Ribbon restaurant, a DJ area, and a huge bar. Folks, she's a monster. And a looker. Instead of rows of plastic chairs, the lanes—and the locker rooms upstairs and the restaurant space—have leather couches and specially made tables.

It's a far cry from The Gutter or Leisure Time Bowl, so we're curious to see how the locals and the bowling enthusiasts across the river receive the place.
