A sign on the window of Sumile Sushi on West 13th Street announces the Japanese den, which helped to launch the career of its founding former chef Josh DeChellis, has closed. According to the note, the restaurant may reopen again after a "corporate reorganization." And per their answering machine:
"It is with great sadness that we announce the closing of Sumile Sushi. Hopefully this will be temporary and can soon return to serving you some of the best sushi in the West Village. We thank you wholeheartedly for your loyal patronage and look forward to serving you again soon."Last night, a tipster spotted workers inside the 5 1/2 year-old restaurant packing everything up. DeChellis left Sumile back in June '07 to open his second, and now shuttered, restaurant BarFry before moving on to La Fonda del Sol.
