The New Amsterdam Market, the greenmarket that had been lobbying to inhabit the old Fulton Fish Market at the Seaport, is now hoping to take over the newly reopened archway under the Manhattan Bridge in Dumbo. The 45-foot-high, 7,000-square-foot spot was once a dumping ground for the DOT, but if he gets approval from The Dumbo Improvement District, New Amsterdam's Robert LaValva will host regular market days there until he finds a permanent, indoor, year-round home.
