West Village: A year ago this month, Jane Street Mexican spot Mi Cocina was seized by the Dept of Taxes and Finance. And over the weekend, we got word that it has been seized once again. Last year, the issue was settled and the restaurant quickly reopened. By the looks of the "For Rent" sign in the window, perhaps it won't work out so well the second time around. Our tipster, with some color:
"Mi Cocina at 626 Hudson (and Jane) Street was seized by the NY Sheriff and officially closed yesterday. The landlord (himself a well~known restaurateur) promptly placed a 'For Rent' sign in the window. The hi~end Mexican has been "univocally" closed for several months, as the proprietor, in the midst of a nasty divorce, fell woefully behind in his rent. He promised to pay the landlord back rent and taxes but never came through. The landlord hopes to rent out the space as a fully equipped restaurant."· Mi Cocina Seized [~E~]
