After months of speculation, Ian Schrager has finally picked Danny Meyer to take over the failed Wakiya space in his Gramercy Park Hotel. Meyer was in the running with mega restaurateur Stephen Starr and (purportedly but unconfirmed) Scott Conant. Florence Fabricant reports:
"The restaurant...will be 'Italian-inspired' and will be designed by David Rockwell. A chef has not been named nor has the restaurant’s name been decided. It is scheduled to open in the fall. Mr. Meyer will also be responsible for the food and beverage operations elsewhere in the hotel..."Now we can see why he pulled out of the bidding for the Central Park cart and stand. We wonder if he's still all in for the Tavern on the Green space.
