Water Taxi Beach Officially South Street Seaport Bound

New, 3 comments

FiDi: Last month, the owners of Water Taxi Beach on Long Island City announced they would be opening two new Manhattan beaches this summer. The first location turned out to be only technically part of Manhattan, on Governors Island. But last week a tipster told DBTH that the second Manhattan location will occupy a more interesting spot, Pier 17 at the South Street Seaport. By the looks of the recently released Community Board 1 agenda, that tip has been confirmed.

Team WTB will present before the Seaport/Civic Center Committee next Tuesday to get a liquor license and general approval for their plans to open a beach restaurant and bar right next to the tourist trap/mall that is the Seaport. We're not sure it will be quite the oasis the LIC location is, but at least it's on the island. And regardless, putting a beach bar next to all those tourist dollars is a no brainer for the Water Taxi Beach backers.
