Tomorrow, Frank Bruni reviews Macao Trading Co, The Employees Only Team's Macanese adventure cheffed by David Waltuck. Today, Eater oddsmakers have set the action as follows:
Zero Stars: 4 - 1What oh what will Frankie Boom Boom award the gorgeous and hip Macao Trading Co.? A quick assessment: the drinks are great; the crowd, beautiful and ever-present; the aesthetics, gorgeous; the food...so-so and relatively pricey. It would be a stretch for the Brunz to give this anything above a one. As skilled as David Waltuck may be, the attraction of this restaurant isn't coming from his kitchen. A goose egg is a possibility if he had some disaster meals, given his proclivity to crap on overhyped hotspots (see Freemans). However, we're predicting some nods to the drinks and the decor, a brief chiding of Waltuck for not being at his Chanterelle-ten-years-ago best, a mention of the porno in the bathrooms, and a modest one star. Or he could play an April Fool's joke on us all and give it a three. We've set the bets, it's time to put your money down.
