Tomorrow, Frank Bruni reviews 10 Downing, Jason Neroni's comeback restaurant on 6th and Downing. Today, the Eater oddsmakers have set the action as follows:
Zero Stars: 8-1Let it be said first off that the general consensus is this: Neroni can cook. It's been noted by the reviewers who have already passed through this restaurant and the Frankie Boom Boom himself in his review of the chef's stint at Porchetta. The issue here is, has Neroni reined it in, and if so, can his food overcome the not so minor shortcomings of the restaurant design—the bottleneck in the entryway and the much chronicled off-the-charts noise?
One Star: 3-1
Two Stars: 4-1 √√
Three Stars: 55-1
Four Stars: 20,000-1
Franktastic had this to say of Neroni upon his last assessment:
"Its 30-year-old chef, Jason Neroni, is a restless sort, brimming with ideas, bursting with ambition. That quality is at once the engine of his success so far and a threat to its development. In his desire to be noticed, he can be overly insistent and careless.."This new review is Neroni's chance to prove his ambition, his brash talent, is in check. Given some mixed bag reviews, his history of putting out misses along with his hits, and the level to which the Brunz is annoyed by noise, the one is a safe bet here. But we have the feeling Neroni can pull out a deuce. We're going with the two. Betting windows will be open for the next three hours.
