Rumormongering: Megu Sets its Sights on Merkato 55

Meatpacking Distrcit: Perhaps we are finally approaching and end to the long drawn out existence of one year-old MePa bohemoth Merkato 55. DBTH reports Megu is moving in:

"Megu has been in discussions with the landlords and leaseholders to take over the troubled Merkato 55/Bijoux space in the Meatpacking district. According to our Little Birdy, 'it is an extremely complicated situation', making the deal probable but unlikely. It seems logical that if a deal was reached, Megu would bring its new M Lounge concept to fill the Bijoux space, while the upstairs would function as a dedicated restaurant."

One giant lounge/restaurant replaces another, yet this scenario seems to make a lot more sense.
UPDATE: This just in from a tipster: "Dudes affiliated with Megu are trying to take the space, but don't want it to be Megu. This, because if they call it Megu they have to pay the Megu parent company for the rights. Dicey, as they probably need the Megu name to get anything done there."
