DOH Chronicles: Payard Gets the DOH Smackdown

New, 15 comments

Upper East Side: Just moments ago Payard Patsserie was shut down by the dreaded Dept. of Health. According to reps at the restaurant, the culprit was a common one: a missing sink. They tell us Payard's pastry section had begun selling sandwiches, and operators were unaware they needed a sink near the window. At this very moment an inspector and a judge are reportedly in the shop trying to work the problem out. They hope to reopen by tomorrow evening.
UPDATE: The Times files a report on the shuttering, blaming the closure on "mice excreta" and "elevated levels of carbons monoxide." The best is Francois Payard's response: "I find this ridiculous...We are the best pastry shop in America.”
