Diner's Journal reports that Tavern on the Green will put all of its fixtures and artifacts—murals, chandeliers, chairs, topiaries—up for auction along with the complete glass ceilings of former sister restaurants Maxwell’s Plum and the Russian Tea Room on January 13 and 14. There will be a preview on January 6, and all proceeds will go to the restaurant's hundreds of creditors.
Meanwhile, Grub Street brings word that fellow UWS icon Cafe des Artistes, which closed this summer, has been auctioning off its goodies all this week (everything except its famous mural). Still, no one has made a sufficient offer on the lease.
