Mama Mexico Files for Bankruptcy; $10 Pizza at Pizza Hut

UPPER WEST SIDECrain's reports that the Upper West Side location of Mama Mexico, which was shuttered by the tax man earlier this month, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The restaurant blames the economy for the filing. [Crain's]

GREENWICH VILLAGE— For those who missed it, last week the Post brought the sad news of a Babbo waiter who was hit by a sanitation truck and had his leg amputated. That waiter is named Jed McGiffin and the restaurant is holding a fundraiser for him at Otto on January 4 from 9 PM until close. Suggested donation is $50, and drinks and snacks will be served.

PROSPECT HEIGHTS— The Brooklyn Paper is lamenting the fact that new bar and music venue The Way hasn't been able to permanently open due to the liquor license backlog: "Way Station’s survival is crucial to the neighborhood. Aside from being the first live venue on this rejuvenated section of Washington Avenue, the bar would become the only true gigspace in Prospect Heights if Freddy’s Bar and Backroom is demolished to make room for the Atlantic Yards project..."
