Making up for Lost Time, Newly Reopened Colors Get Shilling

New, 2 comments

It's time for another edition of Adventures in Shilling, in which we fight shilling the best way we can, by shaming tasteless, unscrupulous shills into submission. Well, that's the plan, at least. Fight shills yourself by dropping offensive links to tips@eater.com.

2009_12_colors.jpgIt's been a rough road for Colors, the restaurant on Lafayette owned and operated by former Windows of the World workers. After word that the restaurant had accumulated some $1 million in debt, things looked pretty grim when they announced a two month break earlier this year (that ended up being a five month break) and it was assumed the place was doneski. But just a week ago, news came out that Colors would be giving it another go. And that's when the shilling started.

Check just a sample of the comments left within five days of one another:

Had a birthday dinner for a friend there last year. Had a great time, good service, and delicious food. Glad to see it's coming back up.

And three minutes later:

Great place! went there last year and looooved the food and service! can't wait to see the new reopening!
Next:
I had the most excellent service and tasty food there. They actually seemed to genuinely want to assist and serve. Other places may do the job, but the attitude is deplorable. I wonder if their problems are due in part to location. NYU students may not be able to afford to eat there on a regular basis, but the rents in that area are quite high. Hipsters tend to toward the grimy, hidden, and/or hard to get into, so even if they can afford COLORS or more - they want something that looks less upscale, upfront, clean.
Anyone else?
So happy that they are coming back. Had a great meal in lovely ambiance. The location doesn't lend itself to much traffic so those of us who love it will have to spread this good news thru word of mouth. Welcome back!
One more please:
Although this place is not always easily noticed, I have to say that I've had a very positive experience the two times I and my daughter went here. I'm happy to see that they are opened again for dinner. We will be back.
And to close:
So glad this inspiring spot is back! Can't wait for another great Colors meal.

You do hate to see that.
