Checking in on the Fall Previews: Pulino's, Gitane, and More

Now that we're fully into fall and two months deep in the Fall Restaurant Opening season, it's time to take stock of what's opened, what's delayed, and what's still to come. First, a look at the good news. These fall preview big timers have managed to get their doors open: Motorino, Gansevoort 69, Abe & Arthur's, Casa Lever, Bill's Bar & Burger, The Crosby Bar, Travertine, The Vanderbilt, Highlands, Corsino, Le Caprice, Tipsy Parson, Brinkley's, and The Breslin.

Time to drop in on the rest.

Cafe Gitane, 113 Jane St.
Original Projection: End of Summer
Current Projection: Workers at the restaurant report it will open on November 16. It will feature the same menu as the original location.

Mermaid Oyster Bar, 79 Macdougal St.
Original Projection: September
Current Projection: It doesn't look like much from these pictures, but reps confirm earlier reports that the restaurant will open next week.

Momofuku Midtown, 15 W. 56th St.
Original Projection: Late Fall
Current Projection: The office gives a "winter" projection, which hints we may not meet Ma Peche until 2010.

Pulino's, 282 Bowery
Original Projection: Late December
Current Projection: A peak inside reveals the above state: some excellent structural work and floor to ceiling brick detailing but still some major work left to be done. A second exhaust was just added to the outside. Late December/January sounds about right.

B Clinton, 6 Clinton St.
Original Projection: Fall
Current Projection: People in the neighborhood report they haven't heard much construction, but that Michael Huynh is a sly one. He could open his new three course prix fixe spot as early as tomorrow or at latest, by the New Year.

Rockfish, 310 Bleecker St.
Original Projection: Fall
Current Projection: A walk by reveals the new Maryland seafood spot from an owner of Johnny Utah's looks exactly as it did when Bar Q closed: white everything, chairs on tables, etc. This puppy isn't debuting until after the New Year.

Led Zeppole, 328 E. 14th St.
Original Projection: Spring
Current Projection: As they did last time we checked in, people at Artichoke say their dessert spot Led Zeppole will open in two weeks. They've been held up dealing with city red tape.
