According to a notice posted at 325 Bowery, Taavo Somer, the scruffy co-proprietor of the restaurant Freemans, the bar The Rusty Knot, and the shop Freemans Sporting Club, is after the former Kelly & Peng space on the corner of East 2nd St. Though tipsters have been spreading rumors recently that he is eying a space in Williamsburg, it looks like he's sticking to downtown Manhattan for the time being.
Somer or his representatives will appear before Community Board 3 tonight under the agenda item Radley Realty Corp. He is hoping to get approval to add in a food counter and install both a first level and second floor bar. It's just a block away from where the board recently rejected plans for a three story complex from Japanese restaurant Koi, but chances are this will be much more low key. CB3, please play nice on this one.
